Middle Level Teacher Certification

• Apply knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research
• Apply data driven decisions through action research
• Apply knowledge of effective building leadership; strategic, cultural, and systems leadership, leadership for learning, professional and community leadership, leadership and advocacy for students with learning disabilities
• Compare and contrast research based best practices for instruction, supervision, and school safety

• Demonstrate knowledge of school and leadership ethics

Secondary Teacher Certification - Student Teacher

• Middle Level education teacher candidates demonstrate pedagogical knowledge and content area competence, including basic principles of the appropriate content knowledge in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies for teaching students in grades 4-8.
• Secondary education teacher candidates understand the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to adolescent development and provide opportunities that support student development and learning.
• Secondary education teacher candidates understand and use the central concepts, tools of inquiry, standards, research and structures of content to plan and implement curriculum that develops student competence in subject matter.
• Secondary education teacher candidates understand and use the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to data-driven instruction and assessment, and they employ a variety of strategies for a developmentally appropriate climate to meet the varying abilities and learning styles of learners.
• Secondary education teacher candidates understand and use the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to data-driven instruction and assessment, and they employ a variety of strategies for a developmentally appropriate climate to meet the varying abilities and learning styles of learners.

Secondary Teacher Certification - Teacher Intern

• Secondary Level education teacher candidates demonstrate pedagogical knowledge and content area competence, including basic principles of the appropriate content knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, English, General Science, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies or Spanish for teaching students in grades 7-12.
• Secondary education teacher candidates understand the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to adolescent development and provide opportunities that support student development and learning.
• Secondary education teacher candidates understand and use the central concepts, tools of inquiry, standards, research and structures of content to plan and implement curriculum that develops student competence in subject matter.
• Secondary education teacher candidates understand and use the major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to data-driven instruction and assessment, and they employ a variety of strategies for a developmentally appropriate climate to meet the varying abilities and learning styles of learners.
• Secondary education teacher candidates will demonstrate understanding the complexities of teaching in grades 7-12, and engage in professional development to continually improve their practices and behaviors.

• Q: When can I start?
  A: Applications are accepted for the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters.
• Q: How is the program delivered?
  A: The program is delivered 100% online through a combination asynchronous and synchronous classes. Synchronous courses are typically offered during the evening, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
• Q: Do I need to take the GRE in order to apply?
  A: No - the GRE is not required for admission.
• Q: What should be included in the statement of goals? 
  A: Please explain the content area you plan to get your initial certification. Statement of goals should be no longer than one page.
• Q: Is there a GPA requirement for admission?
  A: Yes - typically a 3.0 GPA is required for admission. However, if you have below a 3.0 GPA, please make contact with Dr. Daniel Roesch, Program Coordinator.
• Q: If I'm using my employer's tuition reimbursement program, can my tuition bills be deferred until after the semester?
  A: Yes. Completion of the Application for Deferment will enable you to defer 75% of your tuition and fee charges (after paying 25% down) until 45 days after the conclusion of the semester. During this time, you should be able to secure reimbursement from your employer. The remaining payment will be drawn from your account automatically through the payment plan 45 days after the end of the semester, unless paid prior to that date.
