As healthcare providers, physician assistants practice medicine in collaboration with a physician or surgeon. They examine patients, diagnose and treat injuries and illnesses, prescribe medications, and provide treatment. Over the next decade, the employment of physician assistants is projected to grow much faster than the average for other occupations.

Pre-Physician Assistant (4+2) Program
Admission to Commonwealth University’s Pre-Physician Assistant (4+2) track provides students with a strong foundation for pursuing graduate studies in physician assistant programs. While admission to the Pre-PA track does not guarantee acceptance into Commonwealth University’s graduate Physician Associate program, students will complete all required prerequisite courses to be eligible to apply.
 

This pathway ensures you are academically prepared not only for Commonwealth University’s PA program but also for physician assistant programs at other institutions. Along the way, you’ll benefit from dedicated advising, hands-on learning opportunities, and guidance to strengthen your application for competitive graduate PA programs.

To be considered for the accelerated option, you must have a completed online application designating the Health Science/Pre Physician Assistant track before November 1st with a 3.5+ weighted GPA, SAT score of at least 1200 or a composite score of 25 on the ACT submitted to the Admissions Office.  

Applicants are carefully screened to ensure they have the track record (e.g. high class rank and strength of curriculum) to succeed in this very concentrated, rigorous and demanding academic and professional program. If accepted, a compressed schedule of undergraduate classes, including summer work, will enable you to transition into the graduate program at the end of your third year.

If accepted into the "3+2" program, you must maintain the following criteria in order to ensure a guaranteed seat into the graduate program:

• Grade Point Average (GPA): 3.2 or above
• Grades in core classes: B or better
• Successful interview

This track will prepare you for entry-level public health education and promotion positions in settings such as public health departments, non-profit agencies, corporations, and hospitals. Typical tasks of health education professionals include assessing the health of populations and planning, implementing, and evaluating health programs designed to change health behaviors and improve overall health. Graduates will be prepared to sit for national exams and enter graduate programs.

Are you currently certified, licensed, or registered in a healthcare profession? If so, this concentration builds on your current knowledge and skills as you continue your education. The Bachelor of Science in Health Science – Applied Health Studies concentration is a degree-completion program for individuals who are certified, licensed, or registered as a healthcare professional. Students enter the program with an associate’s degree and a healthcare credential and then build upon their existing knowledge and skills to earn a bachelor’s degree. You will benefit from attaining core knowledge at an advanced level that applies to all healthcare practitioners while establishing a more marketable, multi-skilled background.
